Vicki Connerly Joins Cornerstone’s ALM Team

Vicki ConnerlyIn our continuing efforts to provide quality service and exceed member expectations, Cornerstone Credit Union League is pleased to welcome the newest member of the ALM Resources team. Vicki Connerly began her career in the credit union movement when she joined Cornerstone as executive administrative assistant to the president & CEO in August 2001. Over the course of her tenure, she has worked in Marketing Resources and the Accounting Department.  In her new role as financial analyst for ALM Resources, Connerly is responsible for providing timely individual analysis and technical assistance for more than 500 Cornerstone member credit unions. 

In addition, Connerly coordinates ALM workshops, board presentations, and manages the daily operations of the department.  She also serves as an instructor and project evaluator for Southwest CUNA Management School.  You can contact Vicki at or 469.385.6497 for all your ALM needs.

Connerly joins Deborah Rightmire, vice president of Asset/Liability Management and Howard Bufe, assistant vice president of OnBalance in providing quality ALM guidance to credit unions.

Doches CU Welcomes New CEO

After 18 years of service James Muse is retiring as president and CEO of Doches CU. Taking his place is Richard Lynch, who comes to Doches CU with more than 36 years of credit union experience, including 22 years as a CEO. Lynch has spent the last nine years as CEO of Saint Joseph’s CU in San Antonio, Texas. 

Muse had taken the helm of Doches CU in 1996, and under his leadership, the credit union grew from a single branch located in Nacogdoches to four branches including two branches in Nacogdoches, a branch in Center and an up-and-coming full service branch in Hemphill. During his leadership, the credit union saw its assets increase more than 400 percent; deposits more than 500 percent, and membership more than triple from approximately 3,000 to more than 9,000 members today. 

Prior to moving to Nacogdoches, Muse, a graduate from University of Houston, was employed by Shell CU, the Methodist Hospital CU as well as the Texas Credit Union League. In retirement, he plans to spend more time with his family and more time in the duck blind. 

Two Changes in Security Service FCU Mortgage Department

Mike ManleySecurity Service FCU (SSFCU) is pleased to announce that Michael Manley has been promoted to assistant vice president of mortgage operations responsible for underwriting/closing/post-closing and secondary marketing functions of the SSFCU mortgage services department. He was previously assistant vice president of mortgage services.

Manley joined SSFCU in 1992 as a senior loan officer after serving as a contract specialist with the Resolution Trust Corporation/Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. In his new position, he will be able to direct his team to operate more efficiently and effectively to enhance each member’s experience.

He holds a bachelor of business administration degree in finance from the University of Houston and is a candidate for the Certified Mortgage Banker (CMB) designation awarded by the National Mortgage Bankers Association. He also serves on the board of directors for the Texas Mortgage Bankers Association.

Aaron SluzevichIn addition, Aaron Sluzevich has joined SSFCU as the credit union’s new assistant vice president of mortgage originations, responsible for cultivating the growth of the mortgage originations platform, offering competitive mortgage related products while streamlining the process to enhance member service.

With 13 years of experience in mortgage lending, Sluzevich was the mortgage originations supervisor at Florida-based VyStar Credit Union prior to joining SSFCU.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Colorado State University and is a member of Sigma Chi – Beta Tau Chapter.

UNITED SA Federal Credit Union Announces New Board Chairperson

Bill GregoryUNITED SA FCU is pleased to announce the appointment of Bill Gregory as chairperson of the board of directors. Gregory has been a certified public accountant in San Antonio for 29 years and is the managing member of the CPA firm of Gregory & Crutchfield, LLC.  He also has experience in banking, real estate and the oil and gas industry. 

At the 59th annual membership meeting held on March 6, 2014 at the credit union’s headquarters, Peter Hugdahl was re-elected and Arthur Settles was elected to serve on the board. Directors are elected annually by credit union members and serve three-year terms on a voluntary basis.

Serving on the board in 2014 with Mr. Gregory will be: Rick Tobias, vice chairperson; Don Mann, treasurer; Richard Baggs, secretary; Peter Hugdahl; Rosaura Ramirez; John Rees; and Arthur Settles.

Louis J. Zientek, Jr. Named President/CEO of Communities of Abilene FCU

Louis J. Zientek, Jr. has been named president and CEO of Communities of Abilene FCU, replacing Judy Keppel who retired last month.  Zientek has been employed by American Electric Power Texas for the past 25 years.  His most recent position was as director of Human Resources. He is also a CPA and has served several terms on the Communities of Abilene board of directors.

Cen-Tex Manufacturing CU has a New President

Following the retirement of Joy Skelton, Cen-Tex Manufacturing CU has named Erin Windham as the new president. Windham comes to the credit union from a wire and harness manufacturer in San Antonio. She had supervisory responsibilities for the company’s cost and finance department. Windham earned her finance degree from Texas A&M University.
