CU Movement Loses Longtime Volunteer
Tuesday, January 7, 2014 7:00 AM

The Cornerstone Credit Union League has learned that longtime credit union volunteer Robert C. Nagel of El Paso, Texas, passed away Dec. 31, 2013.

Nagel was a dedicated and long-time member of the board of directors of GECU in El Paso - including serving as the credit union’s chairman of the board. Those who knew him well say he was a real example of leadership, and had a passion for credit unions.

He completed all the CUNA Volunteer Achievement certification programs, and he in fact considered that simply part of a director’s responsibility, He also challenged all members of the board to do the same.  Nagel was a regular attendee at Cornerstone conferences, as well as the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference. He was a strong advocate for credit unions, and considered being an advocate among his responsibilities. He took opportunities to voice the credit union difference to the elected leaders locally in El Paso, Austin and D.C.

He served his country as a Marine and as an FBI Special Agent.
