CU Marketing Exec to Share Insight on Crisis Communication at Upcoming Conference
Thursday, July 24, 2014 6:50 AM

When an EF-5 tornado hit Moore, Okla. on May 20, 2013, it turned one of Tinker FCU’s branches into rubbles. Surrounded by devastation, the credit union knew there was no time to waste, and immediately implemented their disaster recovery plan. At the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Marketing & Business Development Conference, Marketing Executive Matt Stratton will walk attendees through a hypothetical disaster communication plan that was quickly put into action during a real-world disaster.

Stratton is Tinker FCU’s senior vice president of marketing and at the Oct. 1-3 Conference being held in Oklahoma City, Okla., he will present, “Where the Wind Comes Sweeping down the Plains: A Case Study in Crisis Communications.” Among other things, Stratton will share how the credit union communicated with members, as well as with the news media in the wake of disaster. He will also discuss the roles of social media and data management as essential parts of a modern crisis communications strategy.

In this thought-provoking session, Stratton will offer a unique perspective to the topic, having managed communications for two major credit union disasters during his career. In 1995, he stepped in to lead the communications efforts on behalf of Federal Employees CU, when it was destroyed in the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building bombing in Oklahoma City.

Cornerstone’s Marketing & Business Development Conference offers an opportunity to learn and network with the best and the brightest in the movement. Through a wealth of general sessions, as well as breakout educational sessions, attendees will learn about the hottest trends and new ideas, and gain fresh perspectives. Building Our Success Brick by Brick is the theme for this year’s conference.
