CU Chapters Encouraged to Donate BizKid$ Box Set to a Local CMN Hospital
Friday, February 14, 2014 6:45 AM

Cornerstone Credit Union League Chapters have an opportunity to introduce children being treated at a Children’s Miracle Network Hospital to the BizKid$ program. BizKid$ is a financial literacy initiative that teaches kids about money and business. It includes an award winning TV series, free classroom curriculum, outreach activities, a website and a monthly online newsletter targeting children nine to 16 years of age.

Chapters are being challenged to donate a $300 BizKid$ box set to a CMN hospital in their area. The goal is to have at least one chapter per hospital commit to donating by March 15, 2014 so the National Credit Union Foundation (NCUF) and Credit Unions for Kids can issue a joint, nationwide press release in April, which is National Financial Literacy Month.

BizKid$ launched nationally in January 2008, and is the first national public television series promoting financial education for youth. It has been funded entirely by the credit union movement. The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation (Foundation) is a huge supporter of Biz Kid$.  In fact, the Foundation supported the production of seasons one through five.

BizKid$ “train the trainer” opportunities are available through the Foundation. These free training sessions are open to credit union staff, teachers, and community partners who are interested in teaching or distributing these materials. Participants will receive teacher lesson plans, student workbooks, and practical hands on content training.  Please visit www.cscuf.coop to view all upcoming trainings and to register online.

As non-profit organizations, CMN Hospitals never turn a child away regardless of the family’s ability to pay. Some of the families who benefit from this care come from underserved areas and could greatly benefit from the educational resources that credit unions provide through BizKid$ as well as other financial literacy tools and services.

If you have any questions about donating a Biz Kid$ box set to a CMN hospital in their area, please contact Rick Grady, the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s CMN hospital liaison, at (469) 385-6485 or email rgrady@cornerstoneleague.coop.
