(FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS) Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015—As part of its signature Credit Unions Care fundraising campaign, Cornerstone Credit Union League has been conducting its CU Ride Motorcycle Tour on select days in September and October. On Saturday, Cornerstone joined forces with Temple Mayor Danny Dunn; staff, members, and families representing Temple Santa Fe Community Credit Union, Texas Partners Credit Union, and Scott & White Employees Credit Union; and members of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Killeen to deliver smiles, hope, care, and 150 stuffed animal dogs to kids at McLane Children’s Scott & White.

“It's an amazing testament to groups coming together and expressing their collaborative commitment to community service,” explains Karen Hart, Cornerstone executive vice president and CFO. “Today, we saw an elected official committed  to the success of his community join forces with credit unions—non-profit financial services cooperatives—and a motorcycle club dedicated to giving back to communities in Central Texas.”

Hart helped to inspire the Credit Unions Care campaign, during which credits and communities across Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas are raising funds and participating in ten credit union rides to support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Credit unions like Temple Santa Fe Community Credit Union, Texas Partners Credit Union, and Scott & White Employees Credit Union have embraced the campaign as an opportunity to continue to deliver best-in-class service to members and communities in the financial services sector.

“Temple Santa Fe Community Credit Union is honored to be participating in such an amazing cause,” explains Emily Sebek, Temple Santa Fe Community Credit Union employee and local coordinator of the CU Ride. “Today, I have not only witnessed happiness in the eyes of children who are fighting illnesses every day of their lives, but I have also witnessed a community coming together for a life-changing afternoon. Thank you for letting us help change lives.”

In addition to event kickoff host Temple Santa Fe Credit Union were Texas Partners Credit Union and Scott & White Employees Credit Union. Gary Janacek, president/CEO of Scott and White Employees Credit Union was thrilled to have his  family take part in the CU Ride.

“On behalf of thousands of credit union members across Central Texas, we appreciate the leadership provided by the Cornerstone Credit Union League in supporting the Children’s Miracle Network and McLane Children’s Hospital here in Temple,” Janacek explains. “Our children are our future, and we have been richly blessed to have a healthcare facility totally dedicated to the needs of our children. Sometimes it’s the small things that we do that matter most in life. The smiles created this weekend help take away some of the pain and give hope to our children and their families for a bright future.”

Participating in the CU Ride with credit union staff and their families were a number of special guests, including the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club of Killeen, Texas, and Temple Mayor Danny Dunn.

“This is a wonderful event,” said Mayor Dunn, addressing the crowd in front of Temple Santa Fe Community Credit Union. “In Temple, Texas, we are so fortunate to have McClane Children’s Hospital. With it being the only children’s hospital in between Austin and Dallas, it has served so many people, not only from our community, but for folks from around the state.

“Any time that we have the opportunity to have something like that in our community and then to go out and touch the lives of children and brighten up their days, I appreciate you letting me have the opportunity to be a part of it,” summarized Dunn. “Thanks so much.”

During the CU Ride in each of ten cities, credit union leadership, staff, and members caravan from a host credit union to a children's hospital to deliver stuffed dogs to pre-designated Children's Miracle Network hospitals in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. Cornerstone, its nearly 550 member credit unions and their members, and consumers are also helping to raise funds for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals with a goal of raising $100,000 by Spring 2016.

The first ride took place Sept. 12 in San Antonio, Texas, and the last ride ends the campaign in Little Rock, Ark., on Oct. 27.
