Countdown to Election Day Begins Now!
Wednesday, October 3, 2018 6:55 AM

This year's midterm election is Tuesday, Nov. 6, and already we at Cornerstone have begun the countdown. There's much at stake in this election—some say even as much as in a presidential election—so be sure to plan your voting strategy.

  • Do a little footwork now and learn about the candidates. Each one should have a website that describes the issues they believe in—and which ones they oppose.
  • Still need to register or update your registration? You have a short window of time, so do it! Find out the hours your polling stations are open and where they are here:

If just the idea of standing in lines gives you heartburn, skip the long lines and vote early. Each state in the Cornerstone region has a different early voting schedule, as follows:

Arkansas: Oct. 22–Nov. 5
Oklahoma: Nov. 1–3
Texas: Oct. 22–Nov. 2

What Else Can You Do?

Arrange to take a friend, family member, coworker, or neighbor in need of transportation (or encouragement) with you to the polls.

It's true that every vote counts, and this is especially true for credit union-friendly candidates. The people who serve in office can have a tremendous impact on the legislation that gets passed. If you're not sure where the candidates, including incumbents, stand on credit union issues, don't hesitate to contact them and find out. They represent you and should be held accountable for their votes while in office.

You might also consider volunteering for your favorite candidates. The more help the candidates have in their communities, the better the word gets around about the issues they believe in. You can be an important part of that effort if you have some time and commitment to put toward it.

Give your American right to vote more than a passing thought. Join us and get out the vote!
