Comments Due on Proposed Rules for Texas Home Equity Lending Law Changes

Texas voters approved changes to the home equity lending law on Nov. 7, 2017. The Texas Credit Union Commission and the Finance Commission have jointly published proposed interpretation amendments to implement SJR 60, which amends Article XVI, Section 50 of the Texas Constitution and applies to home equity loans entered on or after Jan. 1, 2018.

Questions Arise Regarding Home Equity Loan Closings in January 2018

As you have likely heard, home equity lenders in Texas are celebrating the successful amendment of the Texas Constitution effective Jan. 1, 2018. In the new year, home equity loans will involve revised disclosures. The question many credit unions are asking is, “which '12-day notice' do we provide in December 2017 for a home equity loan scheduled to close in early January 2018, the old disclosure or the revised disclosure?” Unfortunately, the conservative answer is “neither.”

Linda McFerrin Wardlaw of Texarkana, Ark., died Nov. 28, 2017, at her home, surrounded by family. She had been an employee of Federal Employees FCU for 38 years, from 1972-2010, before retiring from her management position.

House Passes Bill with TILA, RESPA Regulatory Relief

The House voted 294-129 Tuesday in favor of a bill that would provide mortgage-related regulatory relief. The Community Institution Mortgage Relief Act of 2017 (H.R. 3971) was introduced in October by Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.).

Talley Celebrates 30 Years at Allegiance Credit Union

Terri Talley, business development officer at Allegiance Credit Union (ACU), is celebrating 30 years of outstanding service. The distinction makes her the longest-tenured employee in the history of the credit union, which was founded in 1963 as Federal Employees Credit Union (FECU) in downtown Oklahoma City. Talley began her career at FECU in November 1987 when she was hired as a receptionist.

CUNA Files Amicus Brief Supporting Authorization of President to Appoint CFPB Director under Vacancies Reform Act

CUNA announced that it will file an amicus brief in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia Tuesday in support of any U.S. president having the authority to appoint an interim director at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau under the Vacancies Reform Act, rather than having an outgoing director select any person they want for the position.

More than 100,000 fans of Children’s Miracles Network Hospitals have helped #VoteForMiracles surpass 300,000 votes with still one week left in the campaign. Over 2,500 credit unions have also been recognized by the public who are asked during the voting process to “choose their credit union.”

Debunking 'Chapter Chicken'

When I first started in my role nearly three years ago, I knew I would be attending many chapter meetings. I wasn’t sure what to expect. It had been years since I had regularly attended any chapter meetings. Before I get started here, I would also like to add fine print by saying, there are great chapters everywhere in the Cornerstone Region, and they are all doing great things, and these are just a few examples of all the great work. When I started in 2015, I expected "chapter chicken." Thankfully, I was wrong.
