Cornerstone Selects Crashers for 2016 CUNA GAC

Three Cornerstone Credit Union League member employees, along with 52 representatives from other states, were chosen to be a part of this year’s Crash the GAC in Washington, DC, during the CUNA Governmental Affairs (GAC) Conference next month. The new crashers are Juan Cruz, Nicole Ponteri, and Joel Cardona. Find out more about them below.

Juan Cruz, Member Service Advisor
United Federal Credit Union

Cruz is bilingual and can read, write, and speak Spanish and English. He has helped generate new business for the United FCU branch that has opened in a new region in Northwest Arkansas. He has also organized different ways of communicating with new businesses to help expand the market. Cruz is always ready to attend local weekly "Morning Brews" to broaden his network with anyone from small business to company leaders.

Cruz is a recent graduate from the University of Arkansas – Fort Smith, where he received his Associate's in computer graphics. He's always had a drive to succeed in whatever position he's in, but what makes him stand out is his ability to adapt to a diversity of stances and situations.

Nicole Ponteri, Risk Management Specialist

Nicole Ponteri is a risk management specialist at TTCU The Credit Union located in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She has a Bachelor’s in Accounting and holds the certifications for Bank Secrecy Act Compliance Specialist and Credit Union Compliance Expert.

Since coming to TTCU in 2008, Ponteri has worked her way from the auditing department to the risk management department. Recently, she was elected treasurer to the Green Country Chapter of Credit Unions, and she has helped with the local YP movement.

Joel Cardona, Marketing and Business Development Manager

Joel Cardona is the marketing and business development manager for Houston Metropolitan Federal Credit Union. He received a degree in marketing from the University of Houston Bauer School of Business and, shortly after graduating, entered retail banking.

After learning the benefits of credit unions, Cardona left the banking industry and became part of the Credit Union Movement in 2013, under the tutelage of Barbara Stephens, retired president/CEO of HMFCU. His passion for technology, education, and finances was the perfect cross-section with his new position.

“I can’t see myself in any other industry besides the credit union industry," says Cardona. "I’m a CU lifer!”

About Crash the GAC
Each year, at CUNA’s Governmental Affairs Conference, hundreds of some of the brightest and most influential minds in the system descend on Washington, DC, to network, meet with political leaders, and effect change around the economies hottest issues.

Crash the GAC is an event by The Cooperative Trust in partnership with Credit Union National Association. Now planning its sixth year, Crash the GAC will give credit union professionals under the age of 35 the chance to not only participate in the CUNA event, but also offer an opportunity to have intimate meetings with veterans of our system.
