Cornerstone's Willard Addresses Austin Chapter
Friday, September 29, 2017 6:45 AM

Caroline at Austin Chapter Meeting

Cornerstone Credit Union League President/CEO Caroline Willard spoke to more than 50 credit union leaders at the Austin Chapter of Credit Unions Sept. 28, where she gave the attendees an update on League activities and described her vision for the future.

Willard reported that during the last month, the League has been involved in assisting credit unions that are dealing with the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey. She described Cornerstone’s role as "the" of disaster communications, matching those in need with the helping hands offered by others.

Some credit unions, such as A+ FCU in Austin, offered an even greater level of assistance, she noted, when they adopted a credit union that was severely damaged by the storm and by flooding. She commended the credit unions that have contributed over $1 million to help credit unions and staff in the impacted areas with their recovery efforts.

Willard encouraged all credit unions to get behind Propositions 2 and 7, the two constitutional amendments on the ballot Nov. 7, which update home equity lending laws and provide for prize-linked savings accounts. She was proud that Cornerstone and member credit unions had been actively working to get both constitutional amendments passed during the 2017 Texas legislative session, and she pointed out that this is the first time in Texas history that there have been two constitutional amendments directly benefiting credit unions and their members.

Willard thanked CUNA and the National Advocacy Fund for their contribution of $250,000 to help get Prop 2 and Prop 7 passed and described it as a great example of CUNA and Cornerstone working together to benefit credit unions.

Since Willard became CEO in April of this year, she has spent a great deal of time visiting credit unions, getting to know the members, and speaking to chapters. She is in the process of assessing Cornerstone products and services to make the League as efficient and relevant as possible.
