Cornerstone's Rick Grady Running for Plano City Council
Wednesday, May 6, 2015 7:00 AM

Rick Grady

Plano resident Rick Grady is running for City Council. He is a member of the Plano Chamber of Commerce and on its Political Action Advisory Committee, and he is VP of Research for Cornerstone Credit Union League.

"For nearly the past decade, I’ve been deeply involved in volunteer work for the citizens at the city level," Grady said. "This election guarantees the citizens that I’ll be doing volunteer work for them for another four years."

Grady embodies the credit union philosophy of people helping people. He is a big proponent of credit unions becoming involved with their communities in multiple ways. "I simply want to set an example for credit unions that if they want to get involved in their community, they must actually get involved in the community," he said.

Grady started his community service at the age of 13 when he joined the Civil Air Patrol, a U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, where he fulfilled a long-standing interest of flying and becoming a pilot. He joined the U.S. Air Force ROTC program in college but, within two years, he became a member of the U.S. Army where he served as a noncommissioned officer leading a company of forward air controllers in Vietnam and twice decorated with the Army Commendation Medal.

And he's still setting the example for all of us. Today, Grady is the chairman of Friends of Consumer Freedom, a nationwide organization dedicated to financial education; former chairman of the Plano Planning and Zoning Commission; and the former chairman of the Plano Community Relations Commission. He is involved with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Alpha Delta Phi Alumni Association, The American Legion, American Marketing Association, American Society of Association Executives, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, Public Relations Society of America, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, University of Wisconsin Alumni Association, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Vietnam Veterans of America.

"We are very proud of Rick and all that he has done for our country, this organization, and the CU community," said Cornerstone Credit Union League EVP/CFO Karen Hart. "This is exactly the type of involvement we encourage for staff and credit unions. We know that politics begins at home, and with this type of engagement in local government it's another great way share the good works of credit unions and give back to our communities."

The City of Plano's general election will be held Saturday, May 9. Cornerstone Credit Union League urges all residents to get out and vote!
