Cornerstone Region Governors Declare Oct. 16 Credit Union Day
Thursday, October 16, 2014 6:55 AM

Governors from all three states in the Cornerstone region have made official proclamations declaring Oct. 16, 2014, as International Credit Union Day. Gov. Mary Fallin in Oklahoma, Gov. Mike Beebe in Arkansas, and Gov. Rick Perry in Texas announced their support and acknowledged the many contributions of credit unions to the communities they serve.

The proclamations are a great way to show the public that credit unions are a strong economic and social force. This year's theme, "Local Service, Global Good," emphasizes the positive impact credit unions have on communities around the world. In addition, many credit unions provide their members with gifts and other displays of appreciation on International Credit Union day, recognizing they wouldn't be credit unions without their members. Visit us on Facebook to see what’s going on in the region.

The proclamations have been declared for Oct. 16 because it falls on the same day as International Credit Union Day—the day when credit unions across the world come together to let their members know the spirit of the credit union movement:  People helping people.
