Cornerstone Partners with Children's Miracle Network on 2015 Annual Meeting Golf Tourney to Benefit Dell Children's Hospital

Putting Fore a Purpose

Cornerstone Credit Union League's 2015 Annual Meeting is in Austin on April 7 and will offer a fun golf tournament for credit unions. The event's theme is Putt-ing Fore a Purpose. That theme is more than just a play on words; it reflects Cornerstone's mission to raise funds for one of the highest purposes we can think of: caring for sick and injured children in designated hospitals across the Cornerstone region.

Cornerstone is partnering with the Children's Miracle Network (CMN), which ensures that local children's hospitals have the funds they need. The CMN folks like to say, "Every penny raised local stays local." That means every bit of the money raised during the 2015 Annual Meeting in Austin (after expenses) will go directly into the hands of the Dell Children's Hospital—the first in the nation to be a "green" hospital.

"Every children's hospital uses funds to satisfy its biggest needs," says Children's Miracle Network Hospitals Regional Director Kellie Tiner, who works with 16 hospitals in Texas. "Some hospitals need a new giraffe bed for their intensive care units. Some need more or specialized medical equipment."

Tiner cites the McClain Children's Hospital in Temple, which recently used its funds on a flash CT scanner that allows children to not have to be sedated during a procedure. "Just being in the hospital is stressful, but this special scanner makes the process much quicker and helps reduce stress on the child and his/her family," she says.

In Austin, Dell Children's Hospital is expanding its rehab and therapy services. Before, kids had to go to Dallas and Fort Worth, but now the funds being raised will help hospitals allow patients to stay local and give patients the latest in advanced, state-of-the-art care in their home city.

Tiner expresses her gratitude for the many credit unions in the Cornerstone region who partner with CMN in putting on fundraising events. "Credit Unions across the country put their hearts and souls into making a difference for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital," says Tiner. "The leadership, employees, and members are all dedicated to making a difference and helping sick and injured children get better. We are lucky to have Credit Unions for Kids as a partner because through their support miracles do happen."

"One of the great things in 2014 was a program on International Credit Union Day called Shots for Miracles," Tiner recalls. "The purpose was to encourage credit unions and their members to make debit and credit card purchases on ICU Day, and for every purchase the interchange fee was donated back to CMN." Just a few of the CUs participating in that event included Coastal Community FCU, Family 1st of Texas FCU, First Class American CU, KBR Heritage FCU, Lone Star CU, Mountain Star FCU, and People's FCU.

This year's golf tournament takes place during the Annual Meeting on Tuesday, April 7, on the Crenshaw Cliffside Course of the Barton Creek Resort and Spa. The format is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start. Teams will be assigned as the event date nears. Golfer's fee will include green and cart fees, range balls, and lunch.

Deadline to register is Tuesday, March 10.
