Cornerstone Lending Council Donates $25K to SE Texas Recovery Efforts
Thursday, August 31, 2017 6:55 AM

The Executive Committee of the Cornerstone Credit Union League Lending Council has generously voted to donate $25,000 to the Cornerstone Foundation’s Disaster Relief Fund for those affected by Hurricane Harvey in southeast Texas.

Billy McDaniel, chair of the Lending Council Executive Committee and SVP lending at Communications FCU in Oklahoma City, said, "In keeping with our credit union philosophy of 'people helping people,' the executive committee felt compelled to support its fellow credit unions who are facing the devastating consequences of Hurricane Harvey and the subsequent severe flooding."

A donation to the Foundation's Disaster Relief Fund helps provide disaster relief grants to credit unions during times of natural catastrophic disasters, such as storms, floods, earthquakes, fires, hurricanes, etc.

"It's the Lending Council members who have made this donation possible," said McDaniel. "Because the credit union movement has given so much to us, we wanted to give back. Members of our own community—management, staffers and volunteers alike—are in dire need of dollars to help with emergency expenses, and we wanted to let them know by our contribution that we care greatly about their suffering and want to help."

The Lending Council enables members to share best practices, network with contacts, and build relationships with individuals who face the same challenges, either in person or via the online Lending Council Forum. Its mission is to serve the credit union movement as the premier association dedicated exclusively to supporting credit union lending practices, research, development, and evaluation.

The Lending Council also sponsors the annual Southwest Lending Conference, one of the largest and most well-attended lending events in the region. Council members say their support of the Southwest Lending Conference is part of their commitment to give back to the credit union movement. Next year's conference takes place in Galveston, Texas, a city hard hit by this week's storms.

Lending officers, operations managers, or any credit union professionals who deal with lending issues are welcome members of the Lending Council. If you're interested in being a part of this dynamic professional group, please visit the Lending Council website.
