Cornerstone CU Foundation’s Biz Kid$ Entrepreneur Contest Informational Webinar
Wednesday, August 9, 2017 6:40 AM

The Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation is excited to announce that credit unions will have another opportunity to participate in the unique and acclaimed Biz Kid$ Entrepreneur Contest. This is the Foundation's fifth year of conducting the contest, thanks to our partnership with the National Credit Union Foundation and the generous 2017 contribution from the Friends of Consumer Freedom.

Biz Kid$ is a financial education initiative that includes an award-winning TV series, free classroom curriculum, outreach activities, a website, and a monthly online newsletter targeting children 9–16 years old.

Participating teachers, with the help of a credit union partner, will implement the 2017-2018 Biz Kid$ curriculum in their classrooms, and students will collaboratively create a business plan for a needed organization in their community, incorporating the entrepreneurial skills learned through Biz Kid$.

Date:  August 31, 2017
Time: 1 p.m. CST

To understand the value of the program, take it from the winning credit union and school partnership: WEOKIE Credit Union and Yukon Public Schools won the 2016-2017 school year contest as a result of their business Squish 'Ems.

"The Cornerstone Foundation Biz Kid$ Entrepreneur Contest has been an exciting way for WEOKIE Credit Union to engage middle school teachers and students” said Brent Rempe, AVP of credit union development. "Students enjoy Biz Kid$ episodes, as they use humor to teach financial literacy and entrepreneurship featuring teenagers and the businesses they have started. Teachers value the free curriculum that accompanies each Biz Kid$ episode."

Brent continues, “The highlight of our year in educational programming is our Biz Kid$ contest where we select our winning business plan to submit to the Foundation. All of our participating teachers bring a group of students to pitch their business idea to a panel of business executives and entrepreneurs in a Shark Tank-style competition. Students practice financial literacy, entrepreneurial, public speaking, and teamwork skills."
