Cornerstone Board of Directors Approves Financial Support for ADA Litigation Efforts
Friday, February 23, 2018 7:00 AM

The Cornerstone Credit Union League board of directors has approved financial support for select credit unions fighting Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) website litigation.

Details are forthcoming, but essentially Cornerstone will match funds contributed by member credit unions, up to a predetermined limit. The funds would be used to assist a chosen credit union; the best candidate would likely be a small credit union with a limited field of membership.

"Cornerstone has been working diligently on a number of fronts to defend credit unions against ADA website litigation, and that includes facilitating financial support," said Cornerstone President/CEO Caroline Willard. "We are also closely following Congress' efforts to draft legislation that clarifies the ADA laws, and we are soliciting help from our lawmakers at home to find additional deterrents to these suits."

On Wednesday, in coordination with CUNA, Cornerstone also filed a joint amicus brief supporting a motion to dismiss the frivolous ADA website lawsuit filed against BCM FCU in the northern district of Texas, Dallas Division. The lawsuit alleges website noncompliance under the ADA.

If your credit union has been sued and you are considering fighting rather than settling, please contact Suzanne Yashewski at to determine if Cornerstone may be able to provide financial assistance.
