Cornerstone Accepts Entries for Dora Maxwell Award
Friday, May 16, 2014 6:40 AM

The Cornerstone Credit Union League is now accepting entries for the Dora Maxwell award. This award recognizes credit unions for their outstanding efforts with community outreach, not including financial education. This includes charity fundraising, internships, lobbying for financial education, or other community activities. Chapter events that involve the community can be used as entries as well.

Staci Alsover, creative marketing director for First Family FCU, will be submitting their credit union’s car show, which was held last year over Labor Day weekend. “This event was formerly hosted by a local fire station, but conflicts arose, so First Family FCU decided to host it this year,” said Staci. The credit union had over 60 cars entered, and the parking lot was completely full. Each entrant received a t-shirt and a windshield visor. Local companies also donated items for goody bags, the credit union held a raffle, and t-shirts were sold with proceeds benefitting the Children’s Miracle Network.

The Dora Maxwell award, as well as the Desjardins and Louis Herring awards, has multiple entry categories based on a credit union's asset size. This ensures that smaller credit unions are not disadvantaged by competing against the larger credit unions.
