Cooperative Teachers CU Hits the Streets with Surprise Random Acts of Kindness
Monday, July 27, 2015 7:00 AM

Cooperative Teachers Credit Union’s CU DO GOOD crew hit the streets of the Tyler area on June 22nd surprising people with acts of kindness while challenging the community to do the same and pay it forward.

These random acts range from paying restaurant tabs, providing breakfast for veterans or lunch for the entire Tyler Fire Department, to providing heartworm medication for a local animal shelter or making toy donations to the children’s ward at a local hospital—all done in the name of giving back to the community. Locations and times for some events will go out in advance via social media, but often the best moments take place when people have no idea that they’re about to encounter the crew’s kindness.

“Nothing is better than putting a smile on someone’s face, especially when they are not expecting it. We’ve had such enjoyment coming up with ways to surprise people with #CUDOGOOD kindness, everything from paying for a family’s dinner and giving thank you baskets to the Tyler Police Department to just making someone’s day when it is most needed,” says Tim Miller, Cooperative Teachers Credit Union CEO. “This campaign truly aligns itself with the core values of our organization and is our way of giving back to the community that has supported CTCU for more than 60 years.”

Along with the random acts of kindness, the credit union is asking that the community catch on and pay it forward. CTCU is asking people to upload a photo or video to their Facebook pages with the hashtag #CUDOGOOD, showing themselves or someone else doing good in the community. On the week of August 17, 2015, three people will be selected at random and will be given the opportunity to select an organization or group of their choice for the crew to donate to or perform an act of kindness for.

The #CUDOGOOD crew kicked off the campaign by surprising customers of the Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina by paying for their lunch tabs. In addition to surprise savings and volunteer services, CTCU will be offering lunch for their current members on Friday, July 24, 2015, provided by Curbside Taco at their Tyler branch, and Kona Ice snow cones on August 14, 2015.

Since 1953, CTCU has been dedicated to helping their members build better lives. Headquartered in Tyler, Texas, CTCU provides essential banking solutions. Benefits include lower loan rates, higher savings yields, reduced fees, and a robust network of shared branches and ATMs. #CUDOGOOD is an extension of CTCU’s long-standing belief in the importance of serving its community.
