Meeting with Congressman Brady

Representatives from several Houston Chapter credit unions met with Congressman Kevin Brady (8th District - Houston) last week to discuss issues of interest to the credit union system and get an update on what Congress may do this session. Congressman Brady has a long history of supporting credit unions.

Of the 40 people who attended the meeting, almost all were constituents of the Congressman.  Meeting attendees consisted of credit union CEOs, staff, volunteers and members.

Congressman Brady briefed the group on the Federal tax reform issue, providing an overview of the options and challenges facing the Congress. As the group discussed various issues, one credit union member asked the Congressman, "What else do credit unions need to do regarding issues of concern to us?" The congressman responded that his experience has been that credit unions are the "gold standard" when it comes to advocacy, and complimented the group on their advocacy efforts in the past.

Rep. Brady told the group that the U.S. House Ways & Means Committee, which is responsible for tax-related issues, wants to move forward on tax reform this year.  Rep. Brady strongly encouraged the group to stay in touch with him and other members of Congress about the issues of concern to the credit union system.
