Compliance Review Seminar Rescheduled Due to Inclement Weather
Tuesday, January 28, 2014 6:40 AM

Due to wintry weather conditions in Houston today, the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Compliance Review Seminar that was to have taken place today at the DoubleTree Hobby Hotel has been rescheduled for Feb. 14. As a result of the rescheduling, online registration has re-opened. Please note that seating is limited, so register now if you are planning to attend. If you were registered for the Jan. 28 seminar, you do not need to re-register.

As credit unions are well aware, Texas statute changes take effect in 2014, and these changes affect many areas of the share account side of the credit union. All of these changes and the normal account opening procedures will be covered during a one-day Compliance Review Seminar Feb. 14 in Houston.

Highlights include:

  • New format for the account card regarding convenience signers.
  • Greater detail in the multiple party law on set-off and rights to pay debts at death.
  • POA form and description. In the old law your member checked off the powers that applied. Now the new statute, the member crosses off the ones that do not apply.
  • Minor statute for credit unions allowing the minor to be treated as an adult in share accounts.
  • Guardianships and the duties and rights of guardians and the expiration duties.

Additional information on the Feb. 14 seminar, including registration, can be found online, at
