The Wright Patman Chapter of Credit Unions held their second annual Marathon for the Hungry food drive Nov. 30, partnering with Fox Sports Radio 1400 at a local Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market store and the Harvest Regional Food Bank.

Throughout November, the chapter-member credit unions collect non-perishable food, which is then delivered to Wal-Mart during the Nov. 30 radiothon with DJ and host Bob Delgiorno. Delgiorno spends the day at Wal-Mart encouraging listeners to come out and help the chapter by donating money or non-perishable food.

The Harvest Regional Food Bank is able to take $1 dollar and turn it into five meals, so cash donations were greatly appreciated. Several credit unions brought donations to the food bank from their members and employees.

Wright Patman Holiday DriveBy the end of the day, 1,945 pounds of non-perishable food had been donated, double what was given in 2016 and meeting the chapter's goal of doubling the donations each year.

Patricia Cunningham, vice president marketing and business development for Red River Credit Union, said, "This event makes a tremendous impact on the food bank during the holidays. Shelves are depleted by Thanksgiving, and these large donations made right after the Thanksgiving holiday helps refill those empty shelves."
