Border FCU Reaches Out to Help Flood Victims
Friday, June 21, 2013 9:10 AM

In an effort to help Eagle Pass flood victims, Border FCU says it has established a special flood disaster relief program. This program allows flood victims to skip up to two monthly payments on their loan(s) with the credit union. Through this program, the credit union is also offering members a special low interest loan of up to $1,500 at 5.99 percent APR, with 60 days deferred first payment due date.

On Tuesday, the state of Texas officially declared a state of disaster for Maverick County after severe flooding devastated low-lying areas throughout the county.

“Maverick County borders Mexico and is considered a distressed underserved area,” notes Border FCU president and CEO Maria Martinez. “We are about ‘people helping people’ and our hope is that this program will provide our members with additional funds to help them cope with the extra expenses due to the losses suffered as a result of the flooding.”

Martinez says the credit union is also collecting a variety of household items for flood victims, everything from pots and pans to toilet paper. Credit unions interested in helping should contact Alida Helgerman at ahelgerman@borderfcu.com.
