Border FCU Scholarship Winners

Border Federal Credit Union in Del Rio, Texas, continues its commitment to education by awarding more than $22,000 in scholarships to 35 high school and college students in BFCU’s field of membership. The scholarships ranged from $250 to $1,000 each.

With the support of its community and staff, BFCU hosts several community events throughout the year to raise funds for deserving students. The majority of funds this year were raised at their annual golf tournament in March, which included team play, individual challenges, and a Helicopter Ball Drop. For the Helicopter Ball Drop, raffle tickets are sold, and a golf ball with a corresponding number is dropped over the 18th hole. The winner receives $1,000.

Other events included an '80s-themed bowling tournament and valentine chocolate strawberry sale, both hosted by BFCU’s 35-and-under young professional group, The PULSE.

The recipients were chosen by a scholarship committee made up of volunteers that base their selection on the student's academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community involvement. On behalf of The PULSE’s efforts to raise funds, a $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Del Rio High School graduate and future Angelo State University student Lorenzo Guerra and current Duke University student Nadia Ford.

Other recipients of the academic scholarships include graduates from Del Rio High School, CC Winn High School, Eagle Pass High School, and current students from University of Texas, Texas State University, Texas A&M University, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Sul Ross State University.
