Black Friday Sets Record of $1 Billion in Mobile Sales
Friday, December 2, 2016 6:40 AM

Black Friday online sales continue to climb, and this past Friday was another record-breaking day. According to a new report out by Adobe, which has been tracking e-commerce transactions throughout the sales holiday, Black Friday set a new record by surpassing the $3 billion mark for the first time. This was the first day in U.S. retail history to drive more than a billion dollars from mobile sales.

Major retailers, such as Amazon, Wal-Mart, Target, and eBay, noted that mobile traffic and sales were on the rise. Amazon said that mobile orders on Thanksgiving topped Cyber Monday for 2015, while Wal-Mart said that more than 70 percent of website traffic on Thanksgiving was mobile. Target reported that 60 percent of Thanksgiving sales were from mobile devices.

Mobile was also driving the majority of retail sites visits on Friday at 56 percent, Adobe noted. The majority of sales (47 percent) were from smartphones, as opposed to tablets (nine percent).
