Bitcoin Goes SXSW
Thursday, February 12, 2015 7:00 AM

Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the twin brothers who worked in the early days with Mark Zuckerberg to create Facebook, will appear at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin in March to discuss why the cryptocurrency could be poised for a popular breakthrough with the help of Gemini.com, their new Bitcoin exchange.

That featured interview is one of 12 sessions announced by the festival. Other big names headed to Austin include Google Inc. Chairman Eric Schmidt, Yik Yak founders Brooks Buffington and Tyler Droll, and Altimeter Group founder/CEO Charlene Li.

Schmidt will be among the panelists looking at how to foster innovation, and Li will discuss how business and civic leaders can create a manageable digital engagement strategy.

A session of potential interest to local entrepreneurs looking to get into Austin's burgeoning life sciences and biotech industries will be given by Eric Topol, a doctor with the Scripps Translational Science Institute, looking at how to democratize medicine.

SXSW Interactive runs March 13-17.
