Bankruptcy & Collections Seminars on Nov. 5-6 in Houston
Wednesday, October 15, 2014 6:40 AM

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that this seminar will be held in Little Rock. The seminar will be held in Houston.

The Cornerstone Credit Union League will hold the Bankruptcy and Collections Seminars in Houston on Nov. 5-6, 2014. This two day event is beneficial for anyone working in the lending departments of credit unions.

The Bankruptcy seminar will take place on Nov. 5 and will be taught by Charlie Williams, Blalack & Williams, P.C. Williams will focus on how the failure to properly put liens on a member's possessions can result in major compliance issues. He will also talk about what happens when bankruptcy fraud goes unchecked and how it affects areas like proofs of claims, which could put your credit union in danger. The latest updates to the bankruptcy laws and regulations and how they directly affect credit unions will also be addressed.

The second seminar on Nov. 6 will be instructed by Mike Blalack. Years of experience working with credit unions of all sizes means Blalack knows where mistakes and errors in the collections departments happen most often. Many credit unions lack the proper forms and procedures to send to their members. In order to remain in compliance, credit unions need appropriate notices and documentation. This seminar will also cover all of the key legal issues impacting a credit union's lending department.
