Bankers Attack Iowa Credit Unions in Tax Fight
Monday, January 26, 2015 6:25 AM

Last Friday, Credit Union National Association President/CEO Jim Nussle wrote in his weekly report, "The seemingly never-ending battle with the banks over the not-for-profit tax status of credit unions has emerged again in Iowa. Credit unions there, led by the good work of Pat Jury and the Iowa league, are ready for whatever the banks hurl at them."

CUNA's advocacy team has been assisting the Iowans in their fight.

"Let me be clear," Nussle said. "An attack on any credit union is an attack on all credit unions. The bankers and their allies will try to complicate and confuse the issue but at its heart this is nothing but a fundamental attack on our business model and our ability to put the best interests of credit union members first in all we do. We must and will fight with everything we've got."
