Avoid Miscoding an IRA Rollover or Transfer, Get the Facts at Cornerstone Credit Union League's IRA Basic and Advanced Seminars
Friday, January 24, 2014 6:30 AM

If you miscode an Individual Retirement Account (IRA) rollover or transfer, your member could be questioned by the IRS and they might end up owing taxes on the money. You can avoid this scenario by ensuring you have the knowledge and experience to handle IRS. Feb. 26-27, the Cornerstone Credit Union League is offering its popular IRA Basics and IRA Advanced seminars. Credit union professionals can attend one or both sessions. Online registration is available on Cornerstone’s website.

If you have just started with IRAs or want a good review of IRA fundamentals, the IRA Basics seminar is for you. This program will prepare you to open, move and close IRAs and get all the paperwork right in the process. If you have been afraid of IRAs or just don't have enough basic knowledge this one day review will get you excited and motivated to become the IRA expert at your organization. This day one is fun and beneficial for every person who works with deposits and accountholders. IRA Basics is designed for those with one to three years of IRA experience.

Those who have been working with IRAs for years and are ready for the "deeper dive" will want to take advantage of the IRA Advanced seminar. Attendees will receive a quick product review and all the new numbers and changes for 2014. Additionally, the one-day program will address reporting errors and fixes, excess contributions, audits, inherited IRAs, and more. The IRA Advanced is designed for those with three or more years of IRA experience.
