Arkansas Voters Turn Out in Force on Primary Election Day
Wednesday, March 9, 2016 7:00 AM

The Arkansas Preferential Primary Election on March 1 had a record turnout, including 71 percent of voters who had not voted in the last four elections. The breakdown was 220,419 voting Democrats and 409,828 voting Republicans, and 630,247 voting in the Presidential race.

Governmental Affairs Consultant Ron Harrod said, "The ARCUPAC did a tremendous job choosing candidates to support. We are 100 percent for the Primary, and there will be a few that have a race in November."

ARCUPAC trustees are Linda Jeffery, Terry Tucker, Bobbie Threlkeld, Sherry Gray, Carolyn Ashcraft, and George Bujarski.

Harrod reported that Gov. Asa Hutchinson called a special session for April 6 to address health insurance and consider changes to the state’s Medicaid expansion program. The health care has to be addressed before the budget for the next year can be determined.

The Fiscal Session begins April 13. The Special Session date to address highway needs has not been announced. This is going to be a busy spring.
