Arkansas Governor Calls Special Session
Wednesday, May 18, 2016 7:00 AM

Gov. Asa Hutchinson made the official call Monday for another Special Session of the 90th General Assembly. The General Assembly will start Thursday, May 19, 2016. The members have been told the session will be Thursday, Friday, and Monday.

This Special Session has 15 items on the call, which can be seen in the State of Arkansas Proclamation. It is more than about highway funding. The item that will impact every business is item 8, as follows:

8.  To clarify the law regarding workers’ compensation payments under the workers’ compensation law that resulted from initiated measure 1948, No.4 and to end payment to the Death and Permanent Total Disability Trust Fund.

Last week, Ron Harrod, Arkansas Credit Union Association governmental affairs, attended an Arkansas State Chamber meeting regarding this issue. Harrod noted that Item 8 is not an emergency and should be studied by business and discussed during a regular session, which would allow employers’ voices to be heard during committee meetings.

Harrod asks that all credit union leaders and staff contact their representatives and senators to share your concerns on this important issue.
