Arkansas Fiscal Session Begins Today

The Arkansas General Assembly Fiscal Session will begin at noon today, Feb. 12. Under Arkansas law, the Fiscal Session can only last 30 days but can be extended to 45 days with a three-fourths super-majority vote. This will be 5th Fiscal Session since the passage of Amendment 86 to the Arkansas Constitution of November 2008.

As of Thursday morning, 104 Senate bills, 120 House bills, and 6 combined/concurrent resolutions have been filed.

The Arkansas Credit Union Association will once again host the Legislative and Constitutional Officers Luncheon on Wednesday, Feb. 14.

Tax Reform and Relief Legislative Task Force Committee
The Tax Reform and Relief Legislative Task Force Committee will meet again this week as well. The committee has met the deadline for their written preliminary report of the task force's activities, findings, and recommendations.

The final report is due on or before Sept. 1, 2018, in preparation for the 2019 Regular Session. The task force expires on Dec. 31, 2018.

The task force is charged with recommending legislation to:

  1. Modernize and simplify the Arkansas tax code;
  2. Make the Arkansas tax laws competitive with other states in order to attract businesses;
  3. Create jobs for Arkansans; and
  4. Ensure fairness to all individuals and entities impacted by the tax laws of the State of Arkansas.
