Oklahoma Credit Unions were front and center for one of Oklahoma’s premiere political events of the year. The Annual Speaker’s Ball, held Jan. 28 at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City and hosted this year by incoming Speaker of the House Charles McCall, was perhaps one of the most well attended in recent years.

The black tie event is a tradition, first begun by the late Speaker Rex Privett, in an effort to develop and build rapport between members and their spouses prior to the legislative session. The tradition has endured, but also expanded to include all those who have a hand in the legislative process—other lawmakers, business leaders, and advocacy groups.

“For anyone involved in state advocacy, this is a perfect venue to socialize and interact with elected officials in a festive, casual setting before getting down to business when session begins next week” said Nate Webb, president of the Oklahoma Credit Union Association.

As a sponsor, Oklahoma credit unions received high-profile recognition in front of hundreds of policymakers and other influential members of the community. “The Speaker’s Ball is always a great event and for Oklahoma credit unions. It was an outstanding opportunity to shine,” Webb said.
