Annual Meeting: Giving and Getting the Bad News You Need to Lead

Join your colleagues at Cornerstone Credit Union League's Annual Meeting, April 5-7 in Oklahoma City, where Dr. Ryan Bisel will discuss leadership communication, organizational culture, and behavioral ethics.

More information and registration.

In his breakout session, "Giving and Getting the Bad News You Need to Lead," Bisel will address giving and receiving feedback, including corrective feedback, which is integral for positive change. Attendees will learn the three strategies for providing downward corrective feedback from very gentle to very direct and serious.

Equally important is getting upward corrective feedback—candid opinions from your direct reports. Such feedback can be difficult for managers, but its value cannot be underestimated. To encourage honest conversations, Bisel shares five strategies for getting subordinates to speak up more readily.

Bisel is an associate professor of organizational communication at the University of Oklahoma. Among his many awards, Bisel was awarded as the 2010 Longmire Prize winner for excellence in Teaching and the Scholarship of Teaching. He is currently serving as a faculty fellow for OU's Center for Teaching Excellence as program planner for organizational development efforts themed, "The Adaptive Mind: Metacognition and Student Motivation."

Bisel’s research is published in communication and management journals: Communication Theory, Management Communication Quarterly, Communication Research Reports, The Leadership Quarterly, Business Communication Quarterly, Communication Studies, Journal of Management Education, Journal of Business Communication, Western Journal of Communication, Southern Communication Journal, Small Group Research, and Human Relations.

We look forward to seeing you at the Cornerstone 2016 Annual Meeting—a conference unlike any other—April 5-7, which takes place in spectacular Oklahoma City.

For conference information, contact Tamra Fairbrother at 800-442-5762, ext. 6632, or tfairbrother@cornerstoneleague.coop.
