Annual Meeting & Expo Features 24 Concurrent Educational Sessions and Three General Sessions
Friday, March 14, 2014 6:45 AM

True leaders are constantly adapting and changing to improve not only as leaders, but as co-workers, mentors and managers. At the Cornerstone Credit Union League’s Annual Meeting & Expo April 22-24 in San Antonio, Texas, credit union professionals and volunteers will find a wealth of educational sessions aimed at empowering them face every day challenges in an ever-changing environment.

This year’s conference features three general sessions and 24 concurrent educational sessions. Following are but a handful of educational sessions being offered this year:

Surviving on the Front Lines – The Challenge of Being a Supervisor
Joshua L. Witt, CSHS, Two Mile Consulting

Supervisors in Credit Unions are much like Platoon Leaders in the Army.  They are empowered to exercise autonomous leadership and to operate independently – forward of their command structure.  While maintaining a vigilant focus on operational matters such as productivity and efficiency, supervisors are also expected to simultaneously champion all aspects of human resources, safety, and security management… daunting but not impossible! Learning how to survive on the battlefield of your credit union lobby will largely be determined by how you perform as leader, trainer, evaluator, and morale builder.

Mostly Mobile – The Unstoppable Future of Credit Unions
Ron Galloway

People want simple, transparent financial services, and it has to be available on the move. Mobile services not only provide a more flexible, convenient member experience, they also offer the potential to double the number of credit union members in the next decade.

Members expect the same level of service through all channels, whether mobile, PC, or branch, and the ability to jump freely from one to another; however, mobile is growing the fastest and provides credit unions with their greatest opportunity. The financial services industry is becoming the BIT industry (banking, information, technology), powered by integrating members data and offering services delivered on a mostly mobile platform. This session demonstrates how to offer innovative mobile content, products, and services that fit members' changing needs.

Game Changers – Five Traits of Credit Union Leaders Who Create Explosive Growth
Mark Fenner, Rise Performance Group

The pace of change in credit unions is greater today than at any other time in history. The Internet and social media have changed member habits, regulators are changing the rules, and non-traditional financial institutions are competing with a cost structure estimated to be less than 40% that of credit unions. Change is automatic, but positive change requires leadership.  Anytime there is a change, there is opportunity.  For credit unions to thrive and to capitalize on opportunities, their leaders must be able to visualize an improved future state and have the skills to make that future state a reality.

Whether your leadership style is more like President Lincoln’s or General Patton’s, in this workshop we will explore key strategies that will take your credit union’s performance to the next level.

Folding Time™ Achieve Twice As Much in Half the Time
Neen James, Neen James Communications, LLC

In an environment when it seems as if our systems must change constantly to keep up with regulations and technology, we are forced to weed out what doesn’t matter and concentrate on what does.  Folding time is taking half as long to achieve twice the results; consciously choosing to invest half the time but expecting twice the results. We are continually being asked to do more with less. The solution is learning when to fold. We don’t have time to do everything... we only have time to do what matters.
