Kanika Boutte

At the 2015 Southwest Lending Conference, the Cornerstone Credit Union League awarded the first-ever Lending Professional of the Year Award to Kanika Boutte, lending vice president at Energy Capital Credit Union in Houston, Texas.

The Lending Professional of the Year award was created by Cornerstone in collaboration with the Cornerstone’s Lending Council in 2014. Its purpose is to recognize credit union lending professionals who generate outstanding lending results through stable and sustainable operations.

Boutte, who has more than 18 years of financial services experience—13 with Energy Capital—started her career as a student-worker in a credit union. She grew to love credit unions so much, after graduating college, she chose to stay with credit unions.

Boutte began her tenure at Energy Capital as a senior loan officer and earned several promotions before accepting her current position as vice president of lending. Under her supervision, the credit union has seen double-digit loan growth for the past two years.

According to Boutte, her favorite part of the job is “finding ways to help reinvent the lending process to make it a pleasant experience for my members.”

In 2011, Boutte graduated with honors from Southwest CUNA Management School. She is a member of CUNA’s Lending Council and serves as chair for the Cornerstone Lending Council Executive Committee.
