Fort Worth, Texas-based American Airlines Federal Credit Union presented Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals with a $60,000 donation as a result of its 22nd Annual Credit Union Golf Tournament.

The event took place May 11 at Cowboys Golf Club in Grapevine, Texas. The total donation will be split between Cook Children’s Medical Center Foundation and Children’s Medical Center Foundation.

American Airlines FCU President/CEO Angie Owens presented the check Aug. 13 at the credit union's headquarters in Fort Worth. Accepting the donation was CMN Hospital Specialist Karol Johnson, with Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, and Aracely Munoz, corporate partnerships and Children’s Miracle Network Hospital development officer, with Children’s Health in Dallas.

The tournament was sponsored by a number of credit union vendor/partners, including presenting sponsors: CO-OP Network, Global Vision Systems, Inc., Symitar, PSCU, and many other businesses who participated at various sponsorship levels.

“The weather was gorgeous, which provided players the perfect opportunity to have a fantastic time while raising funds to support a very worthwhile cause,” said Tish Pruitt, golf tournament director at American Airlines Credit Union. “The relationship between vendors, associates, and employees is crucial in making our tournament a huge success.”

Credit unions hold fast to their motto of "people helping people," and this philosophy blossoms with the industry's support of Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. Credit unions, fundraising under the Credit Unions for Kids brand, have partnered with Children's Miracle Network Hospitals since 1996 and have generated more than $100 million in contributions.

“American Airlines Federal Credit Union has faithfully stood by the sides of sick and injured kids who count on Children’s Health for more than 20 years,” said Brent Christopher, president of Children's Medical Center’ Foundation. “Your employees and vendors have been such enthusiastic, loyal supporters through the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals’ Credit Unions for Kids program, and we can’t thank you enough. Because of your gifts, we are able to help more patients and their families than ever before through life-saving research. Just like the American Airlines planes, you keep our Children’s Health red balloon soaring!”

“Cook Children’s is incredibly grateful for our long-standing partnership with American Airlines Credit Union,” said Grant Harris, SVP, chief development officer, Cook Children’s Health Foundation. “Thanks to you and your generous support of our Sit…Stay…PLAY program, our patients' families receive a unique form of healing in their interactions with our five therapy dogs. On behalf of our staff, patients, and families, I would like to extend our sincerest gratitude for all that you do.”
