American Airlines FCU President and CEO Angela K. Owens has been appointed to the CUNA Mutual Group Board of Directors, effective May 1, 2014.

Owens has served at the helm of American Airlines FCU since 2008. American Airlines FCU is a $5.6 billion credit union with 38 branches in 12 states. The credit union employs 580 people and has more than 230,000 members.

Owens has delivered impressive financial results and growth at the Fort Worth, Texas-based credit union under very challenging economic conditions. The credit union’s net worth has increased from 8.8 percent to 10.9 percent and assets have grown more than $800 million during her five years of leadership.

In May, terms are expiring for three members of the board of directors, and with the expiring terms, and the addition of Owens, the board will stand at 11 director positions going forward, with 10 of them being outside directors, along with the CEO.

“Our Board of Directors brings strong insight to lead CUNA Mutual Group to long-term success.  The board is an even mix of leaders from the credit union industry and those with business experience from other businesses.  This ensures we remain true to our credit union heritage while also embracing broad viewpoints,” said Robert N. Trunzo, president and CEO of the CUNA Mutual Group. “Our policyholders can be assured this board composition means their insurance company is being guided by world class leadership.”

“Angie has been a results-driven leader at every point in her career,” Trunzo continued. “She’s a strategic thinker who understands an organization’s balance sheet and will be a valuable addition to the CUNA Mutual Group Board.”
