Amarillo Area YP Food Drive Triples Previous Year's Numbers
Thursday, January 4, 2018 6:55 AM

Again in 2017, the Amarillo Area Credit Union Young Professionals conducted a canned food drive benefiting the High Plains Food Bank, and their efforts nearly tripled the previous year's numbers.

"Thank you to everyone who participated, from CEOs, YPs, judges, members, and everyone in between," said Texas Plains Federal CU Business Development Officer Michael Knowles. "I believe this truly shows what Amarillo Area Credit Union Young Professionals can do when we all come together for the betterment of our community."

Knowles reported that the Amarillo YPs "knocked last year's numbers out of the water." The total donation to the High Plains Food Bank for 2016 was 2,337 pounds of canned food, and the 2017 total was more than 6,600 pounds.

"This is a tremendous amount of food and took many truck and trailer loads," Knowles said. "A huge round of applause to everyone for what we were able to donate to the food bank."

YPs at Hereford Texas Federal Credit Union won the canned food sculpture contest, as well as for collecting the highest weight of cans per member, and won a pizza party as a result of their win.
