ALM is Just One Area Cornerstone Credit Union League Representatives can Assist CUs
Tuesday, February 4, 2014 6:50 AM

Your credit union’s success depends on many things, including membership retention and growth; a competitively priced product/service mix; staff competency, and compliance with rules and regulations. However, as Cornerstone Credit Union League Vice President of Credit Union Relations Greg Robertson points out, if a credit union can’t make it work fiscally, they will fall short of success – even if they do everything else right.

“I’m obviously not saying that it isn’t important to ‘wow’ members with an extensive list of ‘cool’ products and exceptional service from an educated and tenured staff, or impress regulators with your attention to detail, but if the financials don’t make sense, your organization could very well implode.”

Robertson encourages Cornerstone-affiliated credit unions to take advantage of a valuable resource that is available to them as a member benefit – league representatives.

“Your league representative can provide ‘hands-on’ assistance in the area of asset/liability management,” says Robertson. “Utilizing Callahan & Associates peer-to-peer analytics, we can help the credit union identify opportunities for enhanced performance.”

As Cornerstone Senior Vice President of Credit Union Relations Mike Delker explains, league representatives are committed to providing operational guidance and assistance.

“Over the years, the role of the league representative has changed in order to better respond to the needs of our member credit unions,” Delker says. “League representatives do far more than inform and update credit unions on Cornerstone activities and initiatives. They help credit unions perform an operational and financial analysis; work with credit unions to develop proper policies and procedures; assist credit unions in complying with actions required by the regulatory agencies; and they conduct on-site training for boards, committees, management and staff.”

“Credit union operations are far more complex today than they were in the past, and Cornerstone is here to help member credit unions deal with the challenging and ever-changing environment,” adds Delker.
