Jeff Huffman

As president of TCUA, Huffman continues to be responsible for lobbying, developing legislative strategy and political involvement programs, and presenting the credit union message to the Texas Legislature and Texas Congressional delegation in Washington, D.C.

Jeff Huffman joined the Texas Credit Union League in 1982 as a credit union consultant. The Texas Credit Union League was the trade association that merged in July 2013 with the Arkansas and Oklahoma associations to form the Cornerstone Credit Union League.

Since 1984, Huffman has been the primary legislative contact and lobbyist for the trade association, during which time he has successfully worked on a variety of state issues, including the Texas Credit Union Department sunset legislation in 1997 and 2009; creation of the Texas Finance Code, amending the constitution to allow home equity lending and home equity lines of credit; the rewrite of the Texas Banking Code and the Texas Credit Code, authorizing the Texas Credit Union Department to be a self-directed, semi-independent agency; numerous amendments to the Texas Credit Union Act; appropriations issues; and protecting state-chartered credit unions' tax status.

Huffman has also worked on many federal issues, including the Credit Union Membership Access Act (HR 1151), which overturned the Supreme Court decision on the AT&T FCU case; bankruptcy reform; regulatory relief legislation; preserving the credit union federal tax exemption; deposit insurance reform; and legislation to consolidate the NCUA into a single banking regulator.

Huffman graduated from Texas Tech University with a BBA in finance. He also graduated in the first class from the ACULE Certified League Executive program at the University of Wisconsin.
