Advocacy Activities 'R Us! In-District Goings-On for Grassroots Teams
Tuesday, August 18, 2015 7:00 AM

It's summer recess for Congress, as you know, and now is the best time to connect up with your legislators while they're in their home districts. What can you do?

How about inviting them to your credit union for a casual visit, informal office tour and Q&A session, or town hall meeting with your members—their constituents? It doesn't have to be formal, extravagant, or complicated. The point is to get to know who represents you and let them get to know you and your credit union.

Need help? Your Cornerstone advocacy team can coach you on how it's done, attend the meeting with you, or offer up some how-to's, talking points, and informational sheets that you can give lawmakers with credit union hot topics. We're here for you. Let us know how we can help—and report back! As your biggest advocates, we want to hear about how things went for you.

Cornerstone VP Political Affairs Gretchen Ziegler says, "Summer recess is such a great time to engage with legislators back home. It's the perfect opportunity for you to showcase how you serve the communities in which they live while getting to know them on a more personal level. Remember, this is a two way street; find out what interests them and how you can be a resource for them. The more they know about you and your expertise in the financial services industry, the easier it will be for them to contact you when they need an expert's opinion once they're back in DC."

Our lawmakers want and need to know what you think. They want and need to know how they can best work for your interests in Washington, DC. Give them the opportunity by reaching out. That's grassroots in action. That's advocacy. You got this.
