A+ Federal Credit Union has announced that its fifth high school branch in Central Texas is set to open August 2017 at Akins High School in Austin Independent School District. The Akins High School branch will be located at 10701 South 1st Street, Austin, Texas 78748, and will be open to the public.

This is the fifth high school branch in the Central Texas region but will be the first within AISD. As part of the partnership between Akins High School and A+FCU, the branch will be staffed by paid high school interns who will also receive school credit.

"We are incredibly excited to be the first school in Austin ISD to partner with A+ Federal Credit Union," said Akins High School Principal Brandi Hosack. "The opportunity to bring such an authentic learning experience to our students is invaluable. This truly takes real-world learning to the next level."

The school will also have its own custom Akins Eagle debit card. The card, designed by Akins High School student Casey Coffman, was unveiled on May 1, 2017, with a $500 check presentation to Coffman.

Members who use the Akins Eagle debit card will not only earn cash back to their own accounts, but will also earn cash back for Akins High School. Each signature-based transaction will earn 10 cents for the member and 10 cents for the school.

"We are pleased to partner with Austin ISD to open a student-run branch at Akins High School," said A+FCU CEO Kerry A.S. Parker. "Our goal is to improve students' financial literacy and money management skills through hands-on learning. We were founded by Austin teachers and are proud to support educators and schools throughout the Central Texas region."

The partnership will also include various financial education initiatives and engagement opportunities for students and educators. For more information, please visit aplusfcu.org.
