Monday, February 11, 2019 7:00 AM

A+ Federal Credit Union CEO Kerry A.S. Parker, CPA, has announced her retirement for midyear 2019.

Parker started her credit union career 30 years ago and joined A+ Federal Credit Union (formerly known as Austin Area Teachers Federal Credit Union) as CEO in 1999. During her 20 years of leadership, Parker has grown A+FCU from $300 million in assets, 61,000 members, and six locations to an award-winning credit union with $1.5 billion in assets with 155,000 members, and 22 locations.

During her time as CEO, notable A+FCU achievements include:

  • Opening five high-school branch locations at Akins High School, Connally High School, Hendrickson High School, San Marcos High School, and Round Rock High School;
  • Establishing the A+ Education Foundation, which has awarded more than $834,000 in grants to Central Texas educators;
  • Developing Cash-Back Checking and PlusPoints Member Rewards, which gives back over $3 million to members annually;
  • Repeatedly selected as one of Austin’s Top Workplaces; and
  • National recognition for financial education programs including First Place in the National Desjardins Award for Youth Financial Education and winner of the Institute for Financial Literacy’s 2014 Excellence in Financial Literacy Education (EIFLE) Award for Children’s Education Program of the Year.

Parker is actively involved in the credit union industry and local community. She was honored as one of Credit Union Times Women to Watch in 2011 and awarded the Austin Chamber 2017 Education Volunteer of the Year.

She’s served as a board member and treasurer on the Austin Chamber, committee member for the Austin Chamber Education Council, a board member for the Capitol Area Boy Scouts, chair of CUSurance, a Healthcare Insurance Captive; a supervisory committee member on Catalyst Corporate and helped lead the charge for its establishment as a corporate credit union; and chair of the Texas Credit Union Foundation.

“Kerry Parker has provided strong leadership over the last 20 years and as a result, A+ Federal Credit Union has grown significantly, while remaining true to our vision of helping our members achieve their dreams," said Lolly Guerra, chair of the A+FCU Board of Directors. "We will miss her but appreciate the solid foundation she leaves us with as we continue supporting communities throughout Central Texas."

The board has engaged with a professional search consultant who is managing the search process.
