A+ FCU and Employees Give Back to Community
Thursday, January 16, 2014 6:35 AM

Embracing the credit union philosophy of “people helping people,” A+ FCU and its employees volunteered time, talent and financial support to help local youth, educators, families and worthy organizations in the Greater Austin community in 2013.

Staying true to its roots in education, in 2013 A+FCU awarded 21 $1,000 scholarships to  area students, provided paid student internships at its three high school branches as well as other branches, and through the A+ Education Foundation, a philanthropic arm of A+FCU, awarded $68,000 in grants to 74 local educators to improve the classroom  experience for students. Through volunteerism and sponsorships, A+FCU partnered with local ISDs and colleges to support community events, education foundations and student initiatives, including donating more than $70,000 to these important programs.

“Giving back to the communities we serve is an important part of our culture,” said A+ FCU CEO Kerry A. S. Parker. “We especially focus on programs that foster financial education for our youth and community members.”

Additional organizations and causes supported by A+FCU and its employees in 2013 include:

  • Teaching financial education to youth and adults
  • Serving as the financial institution for a MicroSociety
  • Developing and teaching Personal Management Merit
  • Badge classes to local Boy Scouts
  • Assisting and sponsoring local school events, festivals, food pantries and education foundations
