400 ‘Don't Tax My CU’ Letters from Santa Fe FCU
Tuesday, October 22, 2013 8:45 AM

Like many credit unions, Santa Fe FCU in Amarillo, Texas took advantage of International Credit Union Day to promote a grassroots "Don't Tax My Credit Union" campaign. During October 17 and 18, staff at Santa Fe FCU sat directly in front of the teller counter, engaging members with pre-printed letters and postage-paid envelopes aimed for the offices of their state lawmaker in District 13, Rep. Mac Thornberry.

The Santa Fe FCU members were only too happy to assist. Around 400 members signed letters that were mailed off to Rep. Thornberry's office. As a special thank you, members received Cracker Jack bags to enjoy or take home to family and co-workers.

"As a cooperative, we feel it mandatory to educate our members, therefore encouraging them to sign on. As a not-for-profit, it is imperative that credit unions remain non-taxable,” said Tammy McNair, chief operating officer with Santa Fe FCU and president of the Amarillo Area Chapter of Credit Unions.
