31 CUs among Largest Debit Card Issuers

The top 100 issuers of debit cards (by purchase volume) in the U.S. includes 31 credit unions. The list includes Randolph-Brooks FCU (#54), Security Service FCU (#65), and University FCU (#72). The largest issuer for credit unions is Navy FCU (#16) that has issued 4.1 million cards.

The top 10 are all banks. In order, from one to ten, BofA, Wells Fargo, Chase, U.S. Bank, PNC, USAA, SunTrust, Regions, TDBank, and The Bancorp Bank.

By number of cards, U.S. Bank issued the largest number of cards, with its current volume at 47.9 million.

Visa continues to be the most popular payment card with a 39.3 percent market share, with MasterCard in second place and an 11.9 percent market share. Visa also leads the credit card race with a 22.8 percent market share, followed by MasterCard that owns a 14.9 percent share.
