Day 1: Collections
Credit union collectors are now facing new regulatory challenges and operational issues that impact how they legally collect delinquent loans. This fast-paced Collections Training Seminar will address and provide guidance on such topics as GPS devices on vehicles, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, Unfair Deceptive Abusive Acts and Practices, collection letter compliance issues, new repossession pitfalls to avoid, and other hot collection issues. Practical recommendations and advice regarding effective telephone techniques and strategies will also be addressed to help make collectors more effective on the telephone. And more!

Credit union collectors of all experience levels will benefit from this in depth look at current debt collection compliance issues and proven collection techniques and strategies.

Day 2: Bankruptcy
With nearly 800,000 bankruptcies filed in 2016, never has it been more important for credit unions to refocus on bankruptcy training, an aggressive assertion of credit union rights in the bankruptcy courts, fighting bankruptcy fraud, and ensuring compliance with the bankruptcy automatic stay and discharge injunction. These Bankruptcy seminars will devote time, dialogue, and expertise in these critical areas. Without a sound knowledge of member bankruptcies at your credit union, the credit union will miss many opportunities for recoveries, and at the same time will be exposed to the potential for real liability.

Credit unions and credit union bankruptcy specialists will be able to maximize the credit union’s return on its collateral with a firm grasp of the credit union’s rights under the Bankruptcy Code. These seminars will be an in depth examination of credit union best practices when a member bankruptcy notice arrives including areas such as:

  • Successful handling of Texas Chapter 13 member bankruptcies
  • Critical Proof of Claim procedures, forms, redaction and more
  • Reaffirmation advice including forms completion and negotiation with debtors and debtor’s counsel.
  • Key collateral recovery methods including dealing with the automatic stay in bankruptcy
  • Many more issues critical to credit unions in particular.

The day begins with bankruptcy fundamentals and an update and refresher for experienced bankruptcy officers. We then move on to more advanced bankruptcy principles. Blalack & Williams attorneys practice credit union bankruptcy law in all four districts of this state.

Who Should Attend?
Presidents/CEOs/managers, loan officers, credit committee members/volunteers, collection officers, compliance officers, and any other credit union staff responsible for minimizing the credit union's exposure to bankruptcy losses, collections, or lenders in general would benefit from these seminars.
